Overview

The BCV-400 is a heavy-duty cast iron submersible vortex pump designed for effluent, greywater, sewage treatment systems and dirty-water drainage.

Its non-clogging vortex impeller allows solids up to 50mm to pass through the pump, making it suitable for applications where conventional clean-water drainage pumps are not appropriate.

With a solid cast iron pump body and impeller, double mechanical seals in an oil chamber and automatic float-switch operation, the BCV-400 is built for demanding drainage and wastewater applications.

Suitable applications include effluent transfer, septic and aerated sewage treatment systems, greywater drainage, dairy shed wastewater and suitable irrigation applications.

Key features

  • Handles solids up to 50mm

  • Non-clogging vortex impeller
  • Heavy-duty cast iron pump body and impeller
  • Double mechanical seals with additional lip seal protection
  • Oil chamber for mechanical seal protection
  • Automatic external float switch
  • Continuous-duty motor
  • Built-in thermal overload protection
  • IP68 protection rating
  • 10m electrical cable with three-pin plug
  • Performance

The BCV-400 is designed for high-volume dirty-water and effluent transfer where solids-handling capacity is important.

Performance

  • Maximum flow: Approximately 360 L/min
  • Maximum head: Approximately 8m
  • Motor power: 0.4kW / 0.5HP
  • Maximum solids passage: 50mm
  • Maximum immersion depth: 8m
  • Liquid temperature: 0–40°C

Approximate performance at different flow rates

  • 100 L/min — 6.7m head
  • 200 L/min — 5.1m head
  • 300 L/min — 2.7m head

Performance figures are approximate readings from the supplied BCV-400 pump curve.

Maximum flow and maximum head occur at different operating points. Actual flow depends on vertical lift, discharge pipework and friction losses.

The vortex impeller provides a large solids passage for suitable effluent and dirty-water applications. The pump should not be used for materials or operating conditions outside the manufacturer's specifications.

Construction

The BCV-400 is built with heavy-duty materials and a non-clogging vortex design for reliable operation in suitable wastewater and drainage applications.

  • Pump body: Cast iron
  • Impeller: Cast iron, vortex design
  • Mechanical seals: Double silicon/ceramic mechanical seals
  • Additional seal protection: Lip seals and oil chamber
  • Motor: Continuous-duty
  • Motor protection: Built-in thermal overload
  • Protection rating: IP68

The double mechanical seals and oil chamber help protect the motor from water ingress, while the vortex impeller allows solids to pass through with reduced risk of clogging.

Supplied with an external float switch and 10m electrical cable with three-pin plug.

Warranty: 2 years against manufacturing defects, subject to our general warranty terms.

FAQs

Can this pump handle sewage and effluent?

Yes. The BCV-400 is designed for suitable effluent, greywater and sewage treatment applications, with a vortex impeller capable of passing solids up to 50mm.

Is it suitable for septic or aerated sewage treatment systems?

Yes, for compatible septic and aerated sewage treatment applications. Check the system manufacturer's requirements for pump type, flow, head and installation before selecting a replacement.

Can it pump dirty water containing solids?

Yes. The non-clogging vortex impeller can pass suitable solids up to 50mm. It is not intended for abrasive slurry, stones or unsuitable foreign materials.

Does it operate automatically?

Yes. The supplied external float switch starts and stops the pump as the water level changes, provided there is sufficient clearance for the float to move freely.

Can it be used for irrigation?

Yes, for suitable transfer and irrigation applications, provided the water quality and required flow and head are compatible with the pump.

Can it run continuously?

The motor is rated for continuous duty within its specified operating limits, provided the pump remains adequately submerged and cooled.
