Overview
The MD400 is a stainless steel submersible drainage pump designed for removing clean water from flooded floors, basements, garages, driveways, drains and sump boxes.
Its standout feature is its ability to pump water down to just 1mm, making it particularly useful where conventional drainage pumps leave too much residual water behind.
The MD400 can begin pumping with a water depth of just 5mm or more, providing a practical solution for shallow water removal and flood cleanup.
Built with a corrosion-resistant stainless steel body, an Italian-made double mechanical seal in an oil chamber and a continuous-duty motor, it combines low-level drainage capability with robust construction.
Key features
- Pumps clean water down to approximately 1mm
- Can start with water levels from 5mm
- Corrosion-resistant stainless steel body
- Italian-made double mechanical seal
- Oil-filled motor
- Continuous-duty rating
- Built-in thermal overload protection
- IP68 protection rating
- Maximum immersion depth of 5m
- 10m power cable with three-pin plug
- Quality carry handle
Important: Designed for clean water and very small particles only. Not suitable for dirty water containing larger debris, sand or stones.
Performance
The MD400 is designed for low-level clean water drainage, particularly where removing as much residual water as possible is important.
Pump performance
- Maximum flow: Approximately 145 L/min
- Maximum head: Approximately 12m
- Motor power: 0.4kW / 0.5HP
- Minimum starting water level: 5mm
- Minimum residual water level: Approximately 1mm
- Maximum particle size: 1mm
- Maximum immersion depth: 5m
Approximate performance at different flow rates
- 30 L/min — 9.5m head
- 60 L/min — 7m head
- 90 L/min — 4.5m head
- 120 L/min — 2m head
Performance figures are approximate readings from the supplied pump curve.
Maximum flow and maximum head occur at different operating points. Actual performance depends on vertical lift, discharge pipework and friction losses.
The pump must have sufficient water for safe operation and should not be allowed to run dry.

FAQs
How low can the MD400 pump water?
The MD400 can pump clean water down to approximately 1mm, making it particularly useful for removing residual water from flooded floors and other shallow areas.
How much water is needed to start pumping?
The pump can begin operating with a water depth of 5mm or more, provided it is correctly positioned and operated according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Does it operate automatically?
No automatic float switch is specified for this model. The pump should be switched on and off as required and monitored to prevent dry running.
Can it pump dirty water?
The MD400 is designed primarily for clean water drainage and can handle particles up to 1mm. For dirty water containing larger solids, choose a suitable dirty-water drainage pump.
Can I use it to drain a flooded garage?
Yes. This is one of its ideal applications, particularly when you want to remove water down to a very shallow level.
Can it run continuously?
The motor is rated for continuous duty within its specified operating limits. Ensure the pump has adequate water for cooling and do not allow it to run dry.
